Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will finally deliver the first chapter of the final arc of the anime within a few weeks, after the first movie in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc movie trilogy debuts in Japan. The movie is officially titled Demon Slayer—Kimetsu no Yaiba—The Movie: Infinity Castle in English and will hit US and Canada theaters a few months later. The final arc of Demon Slayer has everything it takes to make history in the anime industry and cement the series as an unmatched hit (though Solo Leveling is following in similar footsteps in terms of massive popularity). But there is a particular battle likely to be featured in the first movie, with the potential to be immensely epic.

Which Chapters Will the Infinity Castle Movie Cover?

The production team hasn’t yet revealed how many chapters Demon Slayer—Kimetsu no Yaiba—The Movie: Infinity Castle will cover, but it’s safe to assume that the best approach would be to divide a similar number of chapters across each movie in the trilogy, especially in order to avoid rushing the story in any of them. The Infinity Castle arc consists of 44 chapters, while the Sunrise Countdown arc comprises 22 chapters. If the trilogy adapts these two parts of the Final Battle Arc, as has been teased, each movie should cover around 22 chapters. This means that the first movie could span from chapter 140 to chapter 161. However, since Chapter 163 marks the conclusion of the battle between Doma, Kanao Tsuyuri, and Inosuke Hashibira, they might either choose to adapt from Chapter 140 to Chapter 163 or use Chapter 163 as a bridge between the first and the second movies.
Akaza Will Likely Be the Main Antagonist in the First Movie

In the Infinity Castle Arc, the Demon Slayers separate into smaller groups, each following different routes and fighting different Upper Rank demons inside the castle. The fight against Doma starts in Chapter 143 and ends in Chapter 163, while the battle between Akaza, Tanjiro Kamado, and Giyu Tomioka takes place concurrently, spanning Chapters 150 to 156. The first movie will likely keep changing focus from one battle to another to keep the audience engaged with both. The second movie will probably do the same with the fights against Kokushibo and Nakime, and will likely cover Muzan’s escape from the Infinity Castle as soon as Nakime is defeated, and the castle begins to crumble, concluding the Infinity Castle arc. Finally, the final movie should cover only the Sunrise Countdown arc. However, the marketing campaign for the first movie has heavily relied on promoting the Mugen Train film and the death of Kyojuro Rengoku. This suggests that the battle against Akaza and avenging Rengoku’s death will serve as the movie’s climax. Therefore, given that the battles against Doma and Akaza happen at the same time, they might make a few changes to the order of events to highlight Akaza’s death as the final event in the movie. Therefore, the scenes in the battle against Akaza will surely be epic and full of emotion, as they could also include flashbacks featuring Rengoku, which may bring the audience to tears.

Will the Movies Adapt the Sunrise Countdown Arc?

As mentioned earlier, it hasn’t been officially confirmed that the movies will adapt the Sunrise Countdown arc. However, Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini referred to the trilogy as “the final arc of the story” in an interview, suggesting that they intend to include it instead of turning the Sunrise Countdown into a standalone season. Nonetheless, the movies could follow a similar route to Mugen Train. Given how much the production has valued TV broadcasts for the anime series, there’s a fair chance that each movie will be later adapted into a TV version (with bonus scenes) and air on Fuji TV’s prime-time slot as a warm-up to the next movie.
When Will the First Movie Be Released?

The first movie in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy will be released within a few weeks in Japan, on July 18, 2025. However, it will only reach international theaters starting in August, beginning with Asian countries. The movie will hit the US and Canada on September 12, about the same time it will be released in Latin American theaters. It will premiere in European countries by the end of September and/or early October. Furthermore, executives from companies like Sony and Toho have confirmed that they hold high expectations for the box office, believing that the first movie could dethrone Mugen Train as the highest-grossing Japanese movie worldwide. Mugen Train’s box office was highly impacted by the restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, so while it performed well in Japan, it perhaps would have performed better in other countries were it not for the restrictions. However, this doesn’t mean that surpassing it is an easy task, as the pandemic could also have boosted the series’ popularity in Japan.

Since the previous release, the global fan base for the Demon Slayer IP has grown significantly, so we are hopeful that the new film will exceed that performance in overseas markets. There are many more opportunities for Sony companies to collaborate around anime at a global scale.
