The Sims 4: 30 Best Storylines To Liven Up The Game

Even with all of its possibilities, The Sims 4 can still get boring after a while. These storylines should help liven things up.

They’ve also allowed for lots of experimentation from the developers and have introduced some unique content which we’ve not seen in the franchise before. So, which are the best when it comes to The Sims 4? Updated June 11, 2025 by Laura Alice Sainsbury: The Sims’ greatest strength has always been its emphasis on player freedom, and while DLC content for the latest entry in the smash-hit franchise has varied in quality, the sheer variety of additional content on offer gives players the ability to play their game any way they choose. EA’s team is showing no sign of stopping soon with a colorful roadmap of expansions ahead, but no new Game Packs have been released since the base game became free-to-play in 2022. Even so, these packs still have plenty of fun to offer players and are regularly on offer in great bundle deals alongside other expansion types.

Outdoor Retreat

A Chance For Sims To Escape From The Rat Race

The very first Game Pack, Outdoor Retreat, has not aged well, though it deserves some leniency for being the first of its kind and for its unique charm. The pack added a vacation world and new skills, traits, and aspirations centered around outdoor activities. While the idea of a national park-inspired world is great, players will likely find themselves rarely mustering up the motivation to visit. While the new skills are a nice addition, they are too tied to the world of Granite Falls itself, and players who avoid cheats will find themselves having to earn tons of Simoleons just to fund a vacation to test out the new aspirations.

Dine Out

Indulge In Delicious Cuisine And Divine Date Nights

Dine Out adds interactive restaurants to the game, allowing players to build, run, and dine out at their very own eateries. The idea is fantastic, but sadly, the execution in this pack is lacking. It left many fans dreaming of what might have been, with restaurants being one of the glitchiest features in what is already a somewhat glitchy game.

Though The Sims 4 Dine Out game pack exists, there are several fantastic mods out there that improve or add to the restaurant experience of Sims.

As is often the case with The Sims, the game’s rich modding community has taken its own steps to improve on the concept of dining out, with some truly fantastic results.

My Wedding Stories

A Truly Memorable Day, For All The Wrong Reasons

Perhaps the most notorious Game Pack on this list, My Wedding Stories was an expansion Simmers begged for, and was met with much delight when it was announced. Sadly, like Dine Out, the pack fell victim to an avalanche of glitches in a game where it was already near impossible to have Sims so much as sit down for a wedding ceremony without getting up to do the odd push-up. Regardless of its flaws, the pack certainly adds a new dimension to weddings, with beautiful costumes, the addition of bachelor parties, and its stand-out feature, the incredibly beautiful world of Tartosa.

Star Wars: Journey To Batuu

A Trip Among The Stars

Journey To Batuu is a Game Pack which offers lots for Star Wars fans, but little to Simmers who aren’t besotted with the iconic franchise. The pack has a somewhat controversial release, being far from a traditional expansion pack and offering a world designed to promote Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, with a replica game world filled with tiresome quests, rabbit holes and townies who are not genuine aliens with their own occult type, but rather regular Sims in masks. One highlight of the pack is its build-and-buy selection, alongside its versatile range of clothing for all ages, which makes for some great in-universe cosplay.

Spa Day

Sit Back, Relax, And Let The World Drift By

Spa Day shines for its strong build-buy catalog, making it a staple pack for builders. When it comes to fans of Live Mode, however, the pack is less endearing, with lackluster gameplay options. It’s great fun to build and even visit a spa, but the fun often doesn’t last. Spa Day feels very much like a novelty pack that lacks enduring gameplay, and much of its unique gameplay doesn’t function outside of a spa environment. One of the most enduring features of the pack is the Wellness skill, which allows Sims to teleport at later levels, making for some fun gameplay opportunities. However, once this unique skill has been mastered, players are unlikely to revisit their yoga mats anytime soon.
7

Strangerville

A Creative Fantasy World Of Smiling Sims

The Strangerville game pack feels like an experiment in itself, and is heavily inspired by the hit TV series Stranger Things rather than what fans had hoped for: a return to Strange Town from The Sims 2. This unique expansion marks the first time a Game Pack was used to tell a story within a story. The mystery of the town is incredibly engaging, and the story is well-thought-out and fun to play.

The Sims 4: StrangerVille Complete Guide

The StrangerVille expansion pack for The Sims 4 offers players and unique new world and story to explore, and this is everything players need to know

The pack’s only real issue is that once players have uncovered the world’s mysteries, there’s not a huge range of things on offer to keep them returning to this unique world.
6

Jungle Adventure

Explore The Mysteries Of Selvadorada

At first, Jungle Adventure seems like it will have no longevity beyond being a lush vacation world. However, thanks to the inclusion of new skills and the world’s rich culture, it is more than capable of keeping players engaged. Exploring temples in search of treasure and navigating the world’s various hazards adds real incentive to explore. When Sims visit the town, they can get to know the locals and learn about their culture and customs, including new dances and food. The archaeology skill is also a nice touch. The pack’s one let-down is that there are few lots to play with, and Sims are unable to live permanently among the beauty of Selvadorada.

Dream Home Decorator

The Perfect Pack For Stylish Simmers

Dream Home Decorator is indeed a dream for builders, especially those who are eager to dip their toes into Live Mode and create a career from their hard-won talents. The pack contains a wide range of build-buy items as well as a new career based around interior design, which allows players to transform the homes of other Sims to their inhabitants’ liking. Sims must take before/after pictures and get to know clients before diving into Build mode when they arrive on the lot. This pack incorporates the Likes and Dislikes system well and challenges players to build within a budget, making the experience challenging and engaging.
4

Werewolves

Transforming The Sims World Into A Whacky Playground

The introduction of occult Sims in The Sims 4 has faced some controversy for splitting occult types into separate packs. The Werewolves pack reintroduces the Werewolf occult type and offers players complete control over their Werewolf’s appearance. Additionally, players must choose which Werewolf pack to join and what activities to engage in, which adds a unique level of personality to these occult Sims. The new game world, Moonwood Mill, offers plenty of interesting areas to explore. The pack’s biggest drawback is that most Werewolf abilities are not as well implemented as those of other occults, but it’s still a pack with tons of fun to be had.
3

Vampires

A Bloodthirsty Wonderland For Simmers To Sink Their Teeth Into

For players with a flair for the Gothic and the occult, this pack is a must. It introduces a fully-rounded life for Vampires, and the ability to grow in power and strength over time. There is a skill tree that enables bloodthirsty Sims to add different abilities, powers, and weaknesses.
