Harry Potter is one of the most beloved and most famous fantasy franchises of all time, evolving to become one of the most notable IPs in pop culture by expanding into a stage play, video games, and spin-offs. Now that a TV series is being made, a recent rumor suggests that one character who has never been in the movies could make their way into the series. Beginning all the way back in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which grossed $974 million at the worldwide box office during its initial run, Harry Potter has since accumulated a massive following who fell in love with its fairytale-like narrative and exploration of darker themes as it follows the lives of a young wizard (aptly named Harry) and his friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who all attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, die-hard fans of Harry Potter might wonder if a certain character from the books will make an appearance in the TV series, since they never did in the entire movie franchise.

Harry Potter TV Series Might Include Professor Kettleburn
As reported by ComicBook, the Harry Potter HBO TV show may be bringing back Professor Kettleburn, a character who wasn’t in any of the eight movies but did show up in the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In a post on X/Twitter, Wizarding World Direct states that there is a new casting call that is looking for a male arm amputee and rumored to be for the Harry Potter TV show. For anyone who is up on their Harry Potter general knowledge, this apparent new casting call certainly sounds like Professor Silvanus Kettleburn, a wizard who taught Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and who is missing all of his limbs except for one arm and half a leg.
Likely one of the reasons that Professor Kettleburn wasn’t in the movies is that he retired just before Harry started his third year at Hogwarts, although the wizard is mentioned by Dumbledore in his opening speech when announcing Hagrid as the new Care of Magical Creatures teacher, stating that Kettleburn has retired to “enjoy more time with his remaining limbs”. If the series is indeed looking to bring Kettleburn back in a bid to flesh out his character, this surely exhibits the lengths that the series is willing to take a deep delve into the lore, which can only be a good thing for eager Potterheads.
For now, this will remain a rumor until HBO reveals it to be otherwise, but Harry Potter’s golden trio was recently revealed to the public, joining previous casting announcements that revealed John Lithgow would be playing Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as the next in line to play Professor McGonagall succeeding the late and great Dame Maggie Smith. Unfortunately, fans will have a wait on their hands as the Harry Potter TV series isn’t expected to release until late 2026 or early 2027.
