The trailer for the upcoming remake of The Running Man is here, and Stephen King fans will be even more ready for this terrifying ride. Published in 1982 (as Richard Bachman), King’s novel is about Ben Richards, a man living in a dystopian 2025, who goes on a reality show where there is a financial reward for surviving hitmen. The first movie adaptation was released in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the main role. The upcoming remake stars Glen Powell and the cast also includes Colman Domingo, Daniel Ezra, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, Karl Glusman, Lee Pace, and Josh Brolin. Powell, who previously starred in Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise, shared some great wisdom he got from the Mission Impossible star about appearing in The Running Man and needing to run for much of the movie. Now that the trailer for the Paramount Pictures film is out, fans have gotten a glimpse at what this intense and scary world looks like.

Stephen King’s latest movie adaptation, The Life of Chuck, is an emotional story starring Tom Hiddleston and directed by Mike Flanagan.

The Running Man Trailer Teases A Thrilling Ride And An Excellent Stephen King Movie Adaptation

Glen Powell plays Ben Richards in The Running Man, a father who doesn’t have the financial means to help his daughter who has health problems. As the trailer begins, Ben is unemployed and has run into some bad luck, and a voice explains that The Running Man is:

“the biggest show in the country.”

All Ben has to do is “survive 30 days with the entire nation hunting you down” and he will get the money that he needs. Along his journey, Ben meets producer Dan Killian (Josh Brolin) and host Bobby Thompson (Colman Domingo), and the trailer shows several scenes of Ben trying to avoid explosions and masked killers as he’s chased all over the city. The Running Man remake looks like a jam-packed ride that rivals the most memorable Tom Cruise action movies, and the trailer teases the intense, dark, and riveting tone. The reality show is a huge spectacle, and when Bobby yells “Hunt him down!” it’s terrifying. Written by Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall, The Running Man remake is just one of many 2025 Stephen King movies. Earlier this year, Osgood Perkins’s The Monkey adaptation came out and its wild kill scenes got people talking. This summer, fans are enjoying the emotional tale of The Life of Chuck, which Mike Flanagan wrote and directed. In September, King’s other dystopian story The Long Walk will be released in theaters. The Long Walk and The Running Man share a few similarities, as both stories center around characters who enter a terrifying and dangerous competition. According to Box Office Mojo, the 1987 film only grossed $38,122,105 domestically, despite the popularity of King’s work and Schwarzenegger’s star power. With a lot of hype surrounding Wright’s remake, and the recent discussions of the many adaptations of King’s work, the new movie could fare better than the original at the box office.

While he has appeared in a few romantic comedies, including 2023’s Anyone But You opposite Sydney Sweeney, Powell has a few action films on his resume. Besides playing Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell played Gary Johnson in Hit Man and Tyler Owens in Twisters. He’s also got some interesting projects lined up as he’s starring in a new J. J. Abrams film, which doesn’t have a title as of yet, and the dark comedy Huntington. The Running Man will be released in theaters on November 7th, 2025.
