While this game doesn’t let you fight side by side with others, there is still an entire friends system that helps players keep in touch. The friends system can be completely ignored if you want, as the main game is a single-player experience, but adding friends can help you out if you’re ever in a pinch and need some additional firepower. Here’s how to add other players to your friends list and what you can do with your friends.

How to Add Friends in Persona 5 X

You’ll first need to progress to the end third in-game day after returning from the palace. While there are no in-game dates to work with, you’ll know you’ve unlocked the Friends List when a notification appears on screen, and the app will appear on Wonder’s smartphone. If you’re not looking to add anyone specific, you can open up the Friends List and select the Add Friend option to see a list of players to can request to add.

In the top right of the Add Friend menu will be a search bar, and if you know a specific player’s ID, you can type it in there to make their account appear. Here’s where to find your player ID:

Open the smartphone and select Wonder’s menu along the top of the screen.

Click the three dots in the top left corner of your account’s banner.

Select Copy ID, to then paste it somewhere else where you can see it.

What Do Friends Do in Persona 5 X?

You can choose to chat with friends anytime you are both online, and it will begin a private message in classic Persona 5 style through the in-game smartphone. While that’s a fun way to communicate, the main benefit for friends is using their Phantom Idols whenever needed. When making a party before a battle, the Assist button will appear just to the left of the Commence Infiltration button. Clicking Assist will give you a list of Phantom Idols to choose from to take the last slot in your party and fight alongside you as if they were one of your own. Your friends will appear towards the front of that list, so it’s best to add strong players who have useful options.

You can’t have duplicate Phantom Idols in your party.

How To Choose Your Assist Character

Back in Wonder’s menu of your smartphone will be your account profile page. Along the far right of your displayed party will be the Assist Phantom Idol. Whoever you choose to put in that slot will be the Phantom Idol that appears for your friends to help them out, so be sure to put your best there.
